Here is a combined look at the energy and danceability of Top 100 Songs, obtained through the Spotify API, which assigns a number from 0 to 1 for how danceable or energetic a song is. While the graph has a lot of moving parts, the takeaway is clear: songs have become both more danceable and energetic over time, as the dots have moved to the top left in tandem with the warm-colored line that shows the average value of their movements.

For reference as to what energy and danceability scores indicate, Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" has a danceability of 0.853 and an energy of 0.981.

The two charts above make this change clear - on the left is the furthest the data goes back (1960). Notice that the bottom left quadrant is filled with dots (songs). Compare this to the chart on the right, which shows only one song (Billie Eilish's "when the party's over") in the lower left quadrant that was once heavily occupied, showing a movement away from undanceable and low-energy songs.
